San Francisco saw the unveiling of the world’s first algae fuel-powered vehicle, dubbed the Algaeus. The plug-in hybrid car, which is a Prius tricked out with a nickel metal hydride battery and a plug, runs on green crude from Sapphire Energy — no modifications to the gasoline engine necessary. The set-up is so effective, according to FUEL producer Rebecca Harrell, that the Algaeus can run on approximately 25 gallons from coast to coast!

GENEVA (Reuters) - When Lamborghini and Hummer try getting in on the action, you know greener cars have come of age.
The makers of $400,000 supercars and flashy sports utility vehicles find themselves trying to keep up with tiny, fuel efficient new models at this week's Geneva auto show as toughening pollution laws put the focus on small, light and thrifty.
By Marcel Michelson
Hummer, the rugged U.S. troops transporter that has become popular with Hollywood stars, is showing a version of its HX concept vehicle that can run on ethanol, which emits less greenhouse gasses than gasoline.
Lamborghini's new version of the Gallardo, its "cheaper" model at $222,000, is also designed to emit less CO2, the main greenhouse gas blamed for climate change.
But trimming 20 kilograms off a 325 km/h (202 mph) supercar is well short of the radical steps being taken by industry heavyweights such as Toyota as a battle of superminis heats up.

New Car Runs on Compressed Air
French engineer Guy Negre has designed a car that runs on compressed air, produces no emissions on short trips, and can be refueled in three minutes flat.
by Larry West
Called the OneCAT (CAT stands for compressed air technology), the new compressed-air powered car is a lightweight five-seat vehicle that is expected to sell for about $5,000 when it hits the market. With the backing of Tata Motors, which just last month introduced the world’s cheapest car—the $2,500 Tata Nano subcompact—Negre plans to start selling the first models in India within a year.

The first Operating Prototype achieved over 230 Miles per gallon!
Five years ago, Aptera's founder Steve Fambro endeavored to design and build a passenger vehicle that was safe, comfortable, and more fuel-efficient than anything ever produced. This aspiration, combined with his background in engineering, led him to an intensive study of aerodynamics, and composite aircraft construction. He hypothesized that a low-drag, aerodynamic body shape could be achieved without sacrificing comfort, drivability or safety.
What emerged, after much designing, conceptualizing, and constructing, was a prototype two-seat, three-wheeled vehicle. This first operating prototype achieved a stunning 230 miles per gallon, Building on this success, Steve expanded his Aptera team and created the Aptera Typ-1, which has been re-designed, re-engineered, and refined into a production ready vehicle. We are excited to announce that the Aptera Typ-1 is now available for reservations.

Metrolink is truly a united effort, made possible by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), the Orange County Transportation Authority, the Riverside County Transportation Commission, San Bernardino Associated Governments and the Ventura County Transportation Commission. In 1991, the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), a Joint Powers Authority (JPA), consisting of the five county transportation planning agencies listed above, was formed to develop a regional transit service to reduce the congestion on highways and improve mobility throughout the Southern California region. In October 1992, Metrolink was born.
